Combination Classes

Our Young Children’s Program offers Combination Classes in Ballet/Jazz, Ballet/Tap, and Tap/Jazz for students who are ages:

• 4 year olds: Combination Class or Creative Movement
• 5-6 year olds: Combination Classes
• 7 year olds: Combination Classes or Level I Classes

The Susan Chambers School of Theatre Dance Young Children’s Program fosters a passion for technique in a fun and positive environment. Our aim is to build your student’s interest by offering an introduction to a specific form of dance, by focusing thirty minutes on each form of dance in a one hour class.

Combination Ballet/Jazz

Ballet/Jazz is a fun and stimulating environment which introduces our young boys and girls to the techniques of classical ballet and jazz. Students will utilize flexibility and build strengthening skills through stretching. Basic port de bras and body positions are taught in ballet, along with introductory petite allegro and grand allegro jumps. In Jazz, students will learn basic isolations and jazz technique in the centre floor and move across the floor during progressions. A solid foundation will be actively pursued throughout the season as many of our young students will continue on into separate classes as they mature in technique and age level. Don’t miss out on this fun combo class!

Our young students age 6 and up have the opportunity to be considered for a position in the nationally recognized and award winning pre-professional company, The Susan Chambers Dance Company. Additional training and performing opportunites await when you are accepted into our prestigious pre-professional company.
Combination Classes enjoy performing in our Annual Concert.

Ballet/Jazz Combination Classes are one hour in length.

Ballet/Jazz Attire Requirements

Combination Ballet/Tap

Ballet/Tap is an exciting class which introduces our young boys and girls to the techniques of classical ballet and tap. Introductory ankle and foot control will be a focus as students have fun with rhythms and syncopations in tap. Steps such as stomps, stamps, step heels, and shuffles will be learned utilizing stimulating music and rhythms. In ballet, students will be introduced to the fluid and graceful port de bras and body positions which will provide a foundation for all forms of dance. We also emphasize petite and grand allegro jumps in the centre and traveling across the floor. Many of our young students in Combination Classes progress into separate classes as they mature in age and technique, and this solid foundation is pursued throughout the season to achieve these goals.

Combination Tap/Jazz

Tap/Jazz is one of our most popular classes as our young boys and girls get to enjoy exploring introductory tap and jazz techniques. Introductory ankle and foot control will be a focus as students have fun with rhythms and syncopations in tap. Steps such as stomps, stamps, step heels, and shuffles will be learned utilizing stimulating music and rhythms. In Jazz, students will learn basic isolations and jazz technique in the centre floor and move across the floor during progressions. Students will utilize flexibility and build strengthening skills through stretching. Fun and age appropriate music will utilize your student’s imagination and build rhythmic skills. Many of our young students in Combination Classes progress into separate classes as they mature in age and technique, and this solid foundation is pursued throughout the season to achieve these goals.
