Annual Concert Dress Rehearsals
All dancers and cast members are to attend the dress rehearsal
at the Performing Arts Theatre of the
Gwinnett Center for
their Annual Concert show. The dates
of our productions and dress rehearsals are published
a year in advance so that you may put these five days on your
calendar now. We ask that you do not plan any other event on
these dates. Your dancer, staff and production crews work very
hard all season to bring you a fantastic show in June.
When dancers miss dress rehearsals or productions, this causes
an adverse effect on other dancers and staff and crew. Choreography
is the art of creating dances and one of the criteria is based
on the number of dancers in class.
Often, partnering is created and lines and rows that depend
on every dancer’s participation. In show business this
is known as ensemble work. When a member of
an ensemble is missing, it jeopardizes the entire number that
has been
choreographed specifically for your dancer’s class.
Regardless of age, whether 3 or 73, it is imperative
that your dancer participate when the commitment has already been
made by you and the dancer. Please do not take this productions
lightly; it is necessary, once the commitment has been made,
that you follow through, barring any unforeseen illness or
death in the family.
Dancers are to arrive in costume, with hair and make-up appropriate
for their piece. Photos and video may be taken at dress rehearsal,
but not at the Concert.
For newcomers, you will be most pleasantly surprised and will
come away amazed at what you have seen. Our shows have a libretto
(book of the show) and have dancers, singers and actors. The
lighting cues and the load-in of sets takes place on the first
day of dress rehearsal, in addition to the rehearsal of the
dances and finale. Each dress rehearsal has lighting cues built
for that show, based on the choreographer’s wishes and
based on the color of costumes and the props, if any, and the
cyc drops and flys.
As you can see, attending dress rehearsal is indeed a necessary
part of the
production. These dress rehearsals can be long, upwards to four hours. There
is a concession stand in the rotunda of the theatre that will be available
for your convenience; or, you can bring a snack, as long as it is eaten in
the rotunda of the theatre, not in the house.
On the day of curtain, you will sit back with joy and be amazed
as you watch your dancer leap into her dance, glide into his
song, or step right into the
character he is playing! Remember to applaud loudly, with lots of love and
happiness, and save some hugs for after finale!! |
